Liquor Ban in Kerala – Idiocracy at its Best

Kerala – Gearing up for liquor ban

It’s all over the press, digital space and people are reacting to it. Kerala Government has an audacious, short sighted plan to ban liquor. For a second, I couldn’t believe what I saw on the newspaper. Are we nuts that’s my first reaction! And I’m damn angry about these creeps who comes with such knee-jerk legislations.

Slowly, it dawned on me the real implications of this ban – if it comes into affect in 2015. This throws up a lot of favorite questions, and wakes up many demons in my mind.

Few questions:

  1. Is Kerala becoming a regressive society?
  2. How can politicians act so irrationally, and we dumb public just blindly follow?
  3. Have they made any alternative employment plans for people who will be rendered jobless?
  4. What about the welfare and future of people dependent on this revenue?
  5. What about its impact on tourism? (The moment I said this news to a colleague, he said he will forget visiting Kerala. There goes his 20k to Goa.)
  6. Booze only for Rich  – What an idea?
  7. What is the additional cost of imposing the ban?
  8. Is our exercise or police department capable or trained or managed to enforce ban?

Few tweet from the Twitter space

  • Liquor Ban in Kerala. Now we will see a Black Economy like Gujarat where Liquor available easily available and Politicians/Police earning from it
  • Liquor in Kerala is the second most important liquid after coconut oil. I don’t see how prohibition will work in Mallusia.
  • Prohibition hasn’t worked in Gujarat & will not succeed in Kerala. Regressive idea by hypocritical netas who drink but don’t want others to.
  • The people who considered banning alcohol in Kerala must have done it under the influence of alcohol. No other explanation.
  • BREAKING: Gujarati bootleggers looking to expand business in Kerala as state may impose prohibition
  • Damn! All the Hindu intolerance and Gujarat moral policing jokes based on alcohol prohibition will now move to Kerala!!
  • Hahaha, what next? Banning fish in Bengal & chicken in Punjab?
  • Funniest thing I’ve read today. The Congress in Kerala has proposed prohibition in the state. In Kerala!
  • Bootleggers rejoice! Prohibition on the sale of liquor in Kerala will be introduced in a phased manner-
  • So much for our 100% “literacy” and Kerala model of social progress… This is shameful

——–

Today, 11/10/2014, as I write this, I somehow feel liquor price hike is somehow a diversion tactic from the Government. Are they real about the law or just doing a teaser?

18/112014 – the gridlock exists. I don’t want to know the drama happening in Kerala. It makes me mad.

31/12/2014 Visited Ruby Arena bar at Medical College, Tvm. Ordered a beer when it was approaching 10 PM. No beer sir was the reply. Left disappointed, angry. Vouched not to buy booze from Kerala. Get it all the way from Bangalore. Why pay my tax here? logical, isn’t.

5/1/2015  – Bars will close by 10:PM and open early. Why? Is it supporting early morning drinking? What’s the point these clueless folks are making. Just drive around Kumarapuram, or any part of Trivandrum, you can see plastic packets of waste thrown by people. Government is least bothered? Pathetic! Imagine the rain falling on these waste, taking the waste to the water table. Can’t imagine what all waste items are washed to the water table!!!

Another update on Jan, 2016. I read in a news daily that Supreme Court okayed the liquor policy. One mistake, legalized. I can’t understand how learned people who are the helm of our legal system fail to understand the long term impact of such policies.

Arise my country men!

with a heavy boozed filled heart!

Marketing Tip for Hospitality

During a recent visit to Trivandrum I met a friend at Biverah hotel at Kumarapuram. As I reached early I waited for him at the lobby. During this brief 10 mins wait, I killed the time watching the people and things around the hotel.

There was a gang of foreigners packing their backs and loading into a mini bus. With nothing to do, I was watching the gang of beautiful ladies doing the last minute running around, paying the bills at the counter, etc. And that’s when I saw a girl giving the security chap some tip. Both were happy – one at the prospecting of helping or thanking this young security guy, and the security guy for the generous tip.

And, now comes my marketing epiphany. How can this hotel add joy or improve the experience? How to create a lasting impression on these people, who would probably will never come back to Trivandrum or this hotel? Is there anything they can do about it?

If you’re running a similar place what will you do? Will you give as parting gift? Something they will remember you? Is so, what would be gift like? Is it a souvenir? A fridge magnet or a tee shirt or a pillow cover or just some unique stuff?

Here’s one thing that crossed my mind. Before they leave, the hotel folks should take a group pic of them with the hotel on the background.

Next, get their email address and send the image with a text on it. With love & Thanks from .

Also, they can share this image on their Facebook wall. Added bonus, a happy testimonial from the visitors.

Well, it’s a simple, no money tip. If you are reading this, I would love you to start doing it.

P.S: Surprisingly the last Facebook update of this hotel ( Biverah Hotel And Suites Trivandrum), is December, 2013. Probably, the first thing should be about frequent updates.

If they don’t have, they should make use of an external folk like me to do it on a regular basis. What do you say Mr Biverah?

48 Small Business Ideas to Start Business in India on a Small Budget

Business Ideas Suitable in Kerala

I’m a self proclaimed small business idea guru – close to a self anointed Indian God Man. I get high when I get a chance to share small business ideas with strangers, friends, and colleagues. Very often, my partner is at the receiving end – she often listens or pretends to listen to my endless stream of crazy business and start-up ideas.

Apart from sharing small business ideas, I’m a avid listener to new concepts, ideas. Unfortunately, I don’t have any audience to share the ideas that spring from my fertile land. Earlier, I used to chit-chat with fellow train commuters and share them my concepts. Now, than too has dried. These days I hardly get a willing ear to listen to my earful ideas. Can’t blame others for it. The fault is with me. These days, as soon I get seated in my seat, I open the laptop and be with it most of the time. Zombie state!

Genesis of my Freaky Ideas

Somewhere in my college years, ideas started sprouting, and I started sharing those crazy plans with my friends. At that time, I had an audacious plan to built a boat and ride in on the Veli lagoon ( Backwaters in Trivandrum). Well, this boat plan is still on paper, on the dry docks of my mind.

Off-late, the passion to share ideas has topped to higher levels. One reason for such a show-off of ideas is when I see very talented people wasting their life working as Government clerks, bean counter in finance companies in Kerala, or doing repetitive jobs like cashiers, or young folks happy working in some discrete coding job in some corporation. Besides, I personally know many engineering graduates working as clerks in Banks. Also, one agriculture university graduate working as a bank clerk. What a shame! First of all, I don’t see any future in baking jobs. Blame it on technology – how many times do we really have to visit a branch to transact, especially if there’s a cash deposit machine, an ATM and an APP to transfer funds.

Another motivation, is when I see how my partner has grown a home based cooking and baking venture from scratch.

Ton of Passion! Who has it?

One thing I’ve learned recently – business is not just about money. It’s more about doing what you love to do, or your drive to improve an existing system. Listen to this video interview of Richard Brandson who shares the essence of business. Become inspired!

If you might ask me, if I’ve done anything to implement these ideas, then it’s a  big NO. It’s YES in 2018.  I had initially written this in 2014, I was contemplating on doing something of my own.  Now, I have a small venture called Pebbles Terrarium.

Some of my end goals, includes: spending time travelling around the world, meet people, instigate more people to start blogging, or become digital marketing trainer, etc.

What business Ideas do you get from here?

Caution here!!! Most of the ideas shared here are old ones, packed in a new bottle. Some ideas listed are raw, needs your touch. Small business ideas shared here goes from sexual to asexual, from start-up ideas to customer delight plans.

If you’re looking for a new idea, look around things in your life. Don’t just think of typical business ideas like starting a franchisee or opening a dealership. All those stuff, anyone can do if you have tons of money in your account.

If you’re short of ideas, or think talking to someone will help, then you can call me. My number is  99.00.114982 . I’m currently based in Bangalore. Also, you can send an email ( bcc2charles@gmail.com) with your question.

Off-late, I’m getting many calls from people working in Middle East. I bet many Malayalee brothers in Gulf region are frustrated or unhappy with the life and they are seriously planning to start a business in Kerala. Besides, Middle East Economy is rocking by many things – from the low petrol prices to automation and to the rise of electric cars and so on.

Why Business Ideas are focused on Kerala?

I just love to see the rise of small business culture in Kerala. These days when I tell people in Trivandrum to start a business, the first reaction is BUSINESS – NO. I feel our socialist upbringing and the negative sentiment towards business could be the reason.

It’s time for CHANGE!!!

Also, I feel when people have a strong small business culture, they will mind their business. Indirectly, there will be less poverty, less time for strikes or hartal, higher productivity, a more positive attitude, clean roads, good service at restaurants, better customer service at departmental stores, cleaner public loos, happy govt clerks, more e-governance, and more money circulation in the society.

If you’re a NRI, then I advice you to start thinking of something new or be ready to improve an existing plan. But, don’t be in a hurry to invest your life’s savings. Take your time to do a thorough research, homework, consult with people and more importantly avoid investing all your money. And go digital b’cos or start a virtual shop, if your business can sustain such a concept. Or if you are planning on starting a physical shop, avoid spending all your money on set-up. Instead, invest on yourself, on your employees to be caring, generous and more importantly, create REMARKABLE service.

Thirty Plus Business Ideas for Emerging Kerala

Why haven’t Kerala got a zip line? Just imagine the loads of fun, entertainment or Tarzan kind of thrill. Won’t it be fun zipping past tropical forest, valleys, or across rivers.

So, what is a Zip line?

It’s a steel cable that is attached at two points and it’s used for recreation or adventure or fun. You can set it up, if you’ve the required capital, place to construct a zip line facility. It’s best for resorts, theme parks, nature tours, etc where people will get an areal view of the land below. http://www.flyingfox.asia/

2) Start a Training Centre

Are you a people trainer?

Do you have skills or knowledge to train people?

Then why not become a freelance trainer or start a training academy or become a life coach. You can become a trainer in any topic – from language, to coding, to modeling to Artificial Intelligence, Robotics, SPA Training, Sexuality, Kama Sutra master, Tantric teacher, or virtual reality or spirituality or sales, Food Photography, or HR training, leadership training or self-defense training, job related, Chess player, Posture builder etc.

List is endless – All you need is knowledge and interest in the field, and then use digital medium (blogs, Social media) to publicize it. Make good money, sitting in one remote village in Palai, or where ever you are!

3)  Tailor Made Tour Services in Kerala

Thousands of tourists visit Kerala every year as park of a regular tour packages. But are they really getting real experiences?

Recently I was reading an article in Times of India article, where it says how today’s luxury travelers are on the lookout for an amazing story-telling experience that they can talk about.

In simple words, you can create unique experiences for the tourists. Stop being like a copycat travel agency. Create life-touching experiences for visitors.

Eg: Experiences you can give:

Include a local visit to a toddy shop where you show the toddy tapping process. Another option is to make them climb a tree or you can serve fresh Toddy right under the coconut tree. Or you could arrange a stay in a hamlet ( experience village life ), or take them for snorkeling  in Kovalam beach or a hike in Western Ghats. If you feel all these are done, then make a new set of novel travel experiences.

4) Start A Seven Star Homestay

Do you have a house in the middle of a rubber or tea plantation or by the forest?
Do you house far away from the madding crowd?

Many tourists look forward to spend a quiet holiday, away from the city rush. If you can provide a homely stay, then I’m sure there are takers for it. These days, even Indians are looking for travel places to give them a break.

What facilities matter? First, cleanliness. Next, give luxury comforts like Internet connection, Plasma T.V, outdoor bath tub, etc. I bet you’ll attract people slowly through word-of-mouth. Also, you can create a Facebook Page or advertise in Airbnb.

Go online to check the reviews of a home stay in Trivandrum – Gracefullhomes. How did they get so many positive comments? Can you recreate the same magic, with outstanding customer service.

5) Start an Agency that provides Premium House Maids

House maids, caretakers, or home nurses are in great demand in Kerala and outside. Keralities settled in U.S, UK or Dubai or Singapore, are looking for caring, talented and compassionate women who can speak Malayalam, English or both.

Going by the current demand, there’s a big shortage of trained, well-mannered maids to work outside India.

Opportunity knocks! Start an top-level agency which provides, trains house maids for premium customers. The pay would be starting from 25 k to 80 k or more, depending on the skill, competency.

House Maids – Qualities Required: Could be any of these qualities or a mix of it!

Clean habits, integrity, trustworthy, one who speaks English, cooks Indian & continental dishes, pleasing disposition, looks hot, sexy, capable of taking care of kids or elderly people, who knows massage or one who can sing a good lullaby to your kids, or who can be a companion for your old parents or take care of the household work, etc.

How to acquire the right profile?

Advertise in daily or reach out through social networking sites like Facebook. Word of caution, it’s not easy to pick the right profiles. Most ladies or girls in Kerala would prefer a 7 K job in Kerala or work as a clerk in a gold pawn shop like Muthoot , or work in some ITes companies for 8K or work as teachers for 8k. But, would say NO to job will can rise eyebrows.

But, I bet there are few daring women in Kerala who are bold to experiment and earn. The challenge for you is to find them, guide them, train them and place them in the right orbit.

Give it a try!

6) Start a  Plant Nursery in your backyard or on the terrace

Start a one-of-it’s- kind nursery that specializes on a single or few varieties of plants. For instance, you can be start with Succulents, Euphorbia or orchid or  cactus or succulents, bonsai or water lilies.

I have shared this concept with my friends in Trivandrum, but none has taken the initiative. This plan can be carried out without quitting your day job. So, start utilizing your terrace or vacant land to grow healthy plants.

All you need is your interest towards gardening. For more gardening ideas, you can visit Pinterest or pick ideas from Google. 🙂

7) Start an Unisex Spa in Kerala – Hair Saloon or Feet Care Centre

Grooming is a booming business in Kerala and more in Bangalore. So, why not start a uni-sex spa or saloon or even start foot massage center in your town. If you’re new to this grooming business, then there are courses you choose to learn . Check out how this feet spa centre based in Bangalore (Thehappyfeet.com )

8) Start an Employment Forum for Retired Men & Women

Today 55 or 60 is the old 45. There are many productive years for these young men and women. Why should you let this experience resource go for waste? Are they spending time doing nothing, watching useless Malayalam serials or just running errands at their house or just being a baby sitter for their working sons and daughters.

You can give them a chance to be useful to the society, and be productive. Begin by collecting the data of people in this age group. It will the first employment facility for retired and senior citizens.

9) Own a Dog Spa Centre

On a recent visit to Chennai I spotted many dog spas. Surprising!

10) Govt Paper work done here! Ease the pain of getting Govt Sanctions

This freelance or consultant job is suitable for retired Govt employee, or people with teh right political connection. This biz concept is bout starting an agency to assist people with Govt paper work/sanctions.

Ask any public, all you can hear is tales of frustration, anger…. dealing with clerks and govt higher-ups. Well, we know that the paper work is complicated. All fuc*!#! RULES.

Now, if you can ease this goddamn bureaucratic work, then you’ve a new business going.

Most govt clerks are working with archaic British rules, so can’t blame them for the muddle, and hassle they pass to you. I recently I walked some 14 times up and down the corridors of Trivandrum corporation office for an approval. It was during Onam, and most of these clerks were hardly available. Finally, one of my friend, bailed me out of the situation. He was a persistent fellow who walked to and fro and go my paper work done.

Well, we can’t change the system overnight, but if you can help other, then they will thank you or reward you. It means you should be a legitimate middle man.

In simple words, you should do the walking, taking and execution part for others. Ease their work, and customers will love you for it.

11) Build Your Own Mountain Bike Off Road Track

Do you own an open space of 2 acres or so? Do you have the passion towards extreme biking? If both have these do, then you can build the first mountain bike trail. Buy couple of quad bikes or off road bikes like Impluse and give it for hire. Also teach people all the fancy tricks in bike like wheeling, etc.

12) Start a Seven Star Paying Guest or Hostel for Working Women

I’ve seen dozen PG’s around Technopark, Trivandrum. As usual, they are just do mediocre service and facility. So, here’s a game changer. You can start a paying guest facility like WiFi, super clean bathroom, laundry service and food mess with North Indian and South Indian cuisine. What about a in-house massage or swimming pool or jaccuzi or gym.

13)  Run a Bike Repair Shop

I know a bank employee, who repairs his bike, dismantles everything, then fixes. Great!. And if you’ve the same skill or knack of repairing bikes or passionate about bikes, then this is a big money checker. Start a bike or car service centre – or for a change, start a cafe cum bike alteration centre.

14) Agency to Assist NRI’s – Handle Home affairs

Is there an agency which can assist NRI’s?
If so, is this agency visible online?
If the answer is NO, then you can start one.

Many families in Kerala relies on external remittance from NRI people. But, when it comes to their support, there’s no trusted agency to help NRIs. This is where the opportunity lies.

You can help – take care of their aging parents, arrange a driver, security guard, cooks, repair men, maids, and do bank work, pay property tax or get a coconut climber, tend their garden, etc.

15) Start a Finishing School

Most graduates from our colleges in Kerala are incompetent to face the onslaught of corporate life. Here’s the opportunity of you. Become a guide, a teacher or a mentor. They will thank you for it!

16) Creative Driftwood store

19) Take Away Food Counter

Are you a master chef? Not necessarily a master chef, but a good cook. If yes, you can start a take away counter with fish, pork, beef, chicken, vegetables, kappa, egg, etc. Why not make masala dosa with a different filling? Try with minced meat?

If you’re a certified counselor  or just has the drive to be one, then you’re in for a gold mine in Kerala. Make a steady income by starting online and offline counseling.

24) Mobile Old Age Centre

25) Relief For Sexually Deprived

It’s a known truth – most men and women in Kerala are sexually frustrated. Societal norms, family dos and don’t, prejudices, taboos, lack of freedom, prying eyes, neighbors intrusion in your life, morality issues, etc are forcing people to bottle these basic desires.

Can you suggest a novel solution to diffuse these canned sexual emotions? Can you find out a soft solution to this burning desire. Yes, it should be legit!

26) Start a Home Boutique

Start a hand embroidery unit or a tailoring unit. Make your own signature dress, costume or unique dress. Why not use lungi as a medium to make wrap rounds or ladies top! Sounds weird, maybe it can work.

27) Handmade Designer Umbrellas

Make designer umbrella ( Paint unique designs using pastel colors on the umbrella cover). Hotels, Kerala tourism department can make, sell such unique umbrella through their vast network of offices)

28) Customized T Shirts

It’s not a new idea but there’s still space for you to carve a new genre. Do you have a unique art to sell through Tee shirts? Dept of Tourism, Kerala has few T shirts, but they are not promoting it the way it should. Till date, I haven’t seen any foreign tourist in Trivandrum, wearing one. Where are we failing? Design, or marketing?

29) Film Poster or Mound Movie scenes

Make photo frame of Malayalam movie stars, movie posters, movie scenes,  malayalam actor and actress ( Jayan, Sathyan, Balan K Nair, Prem Nazir, Silk Smitha, Shakila, Jayabarathi, Seema or Jagathy or Srinivasn, Addor Basi, etc.)

Mound a reel action picture on a quality frame. I know there’re buyers for it. Or you can frame old Malayalam film poster. What do you say?

Fridge magnets are more a western concept, but it has started appearing in many Indian living rooms. Can you make souvenirs, murals, or promote icons of God’s Own Country through these magnets.  Kerala Tourism dept, can you hear me!!!

31) Kamasutra imprint on Condoms

We have dotted condom, flavored ones, but do we have designer condom with different kama styles imprinted on it. When inflated it can make the act more interesting. I’m not sure that this technology exists, but it’s worth thinking. Or sell this idea to Hindustan Latex.

32) Start Trivandrum or Cochin Walk

Before I tell you about it, take a look at Bangalore walk. Can you introduce this concept in Trivandrum or Cochin or Kollam or Allepy? Only criteria – be a story teller, have a passion for history, legend, a good communicator.

33) Become an Career Consultant in Kerala
Every year thousand of graduates or engineers pass from various colleges in Kerala. With little no career guidance, most students have no idea about the opportunities awaiting them. All we know is our PSC clerical job or a nursing field or a library science or a Plus two teacher. Mind you, all these jobs won’t take you anywhere.

If you want proof, look at what happened to bank jobs. At one time, it used to the cool job in town. I remember writing BSRB tests. And I remember the studious guys and girls who got the bank job. But, what’s the fate of these jobs now.

Well I don’t recommend a Govt job? If you have real talent, then whey waste your creative life following some rule book and making a daily living. Why get into a underpaying job in the Govt sector. Rise my friends, start something new!

If you’ve the creative skill or passion in making gift hampers or gift box, then here’s another home based business idea. Start a biz around gift wraps. You can supply gift box for any occasion  from baby showers to birthday’s to engagement or for reunion party. Fill it will homemade chocolates or other unique gifts that people will love to receive. Here’s a real world example of lady doing gift warp. The Golden Wrap

36) Become an Indian ‘sex expert’ – Kamasutra Teacher

It’s the latest chip from my weird head. There’s a lot of confusion on sex, styles and about the conjugal pleasures, or about the big “O”. If you think, you’re good at this art, then why not share your skill or knowledge with others. I know this is weird, but many westerners are visiting India, especially places like Khajuraho or Varanasi to learn more about Tantric sex or Kama styles.

Despite, our rich tradition, even Indians are ignorant of #Kamasutra. We’re more pseudo in our behavior, and have distanced from our earlier learning. Let’s rekindle the old passion and share the age old wisdom.

While live demo may not be possible you can share your knowledge through writing, blog or #ebook. Probably you can have Skype consultation or release an audio book or do phone consultation. Will it work? Don’t know. There’s no harm in trying!

When you search for a tutor?

37) Expert Car Driving Lessons for Gulf

Getting a driving license in Gulf is equal to getting a job there. Many Mallu brother fail to qualify their stringent driving test. Is there a place to get better training in Kerala, before they face the real test in Gulf? We have numerous car driving places in Kerala, or elsewhere, where they do a shoddy job of teaching. Let’s have a driving school, that has takes each student to toughest course, or challenge.

38) Start a souvenir Shop

In most cities and towns of Kerala you get to see some handicraft shops or Govt run stores which sells Kathakali models, or models of boat, etc. But, most of these stuffs are boring, repetitive and just replicas of old designs. Why not come with a store with unique products which depicts the modern and old Kerala.  Products could range from cushion covers to bread spreads, to fridge magnets, to umbrellas with images of Kerala, terracotta works, or even condoms with Kathakali print. Probably, you should create an offbeat store which will have a coffee store along with it. Or what about Kathakali robot or a machine which does two three or more steps of this classical dance with one winding.

39) Open Clean Loos Across the State ( This update on 21/11/15)

We know the deplorable conditions of our public toilets. Recently, I used the loo inside the East Fort bus stop in Trivandrum. This open air loo, can rank one of the top dirty loos in God’s Own Country. BTW, is there an agency which ranks the Good, Bad and Filthy loo in Kerala. Or, another idea just cropped in my mind, is there a mobile App to spot public loo in the state or across India. Probably, this app can spot loos inside hotels. It will be helpful to thousand of tourists who must be holding their pee for a long time. Also, some kind of ranking would be helpful. Just a question, how many times have you used a hotel or coffee shop loo, instead of a public loo?

40) Mobile Medical testing Facility

Kerala with a large aging population need more hospitals and geriatric care centres. With the sedentary lifestyle of people, and bad food habit, there’s mounting number of diabetic people in this state. All these people, would need medical facility, and in many cases at their homes.

In Bangalore, there’s a startup company called Practo. They do home medical care services. Like them, there is another firm – Nightingales. The point is, you can start a similar venture in Trivandrum or Ernakulam. What do you think of a mobile lab, or a dialysis unit, or even a X ray unit on wheels?

41) Develop an Unique Summer Camp for Kids

When the school vacation starts, we come across ads proclaiming summer camps of all kinds. Somehow, I feel all these are just copycats. Meaning, all are unique in one way or the other. If you think and develop an completely different value proposition for the parents and the participants, then you’ve a winner. So, what’s new. I haven’t thought much about it, but I know it should be of a completely different experience and scale. So, next it’s your turn to research, think and implement it.

42) Boarding School for Autism Kids
Personally I know two parent who are having kids with autism related problem. And in both cases, they are not satisfied with the care give by the schools. Also, most schools don’t have boarding facility. So, what if you can build an excellent facility for such kids. It should be a place where parents will happily leave their kids, knowing that they are in safe hands.

43) Solution for Growing Medical Cases from Cardiac Problem to Piles

Last year a friend died unexpectedly due to cardiac arrest. He left 2 teenage kids and a his wife behind.  While it was a shocking news to his friends, he’s just another victim to the rising cardiac problem in Kerala. Just like cardiac issues, another health concern is the rising number of diabetic patients, cases of piles and fistula in Kerala.

The health experts agree that our sedentary lifestyle, and rise of stress, food eating habits ,etc could be contributing factors.

So, do you have a solution to the rising medical cases in Kerala? If you’re concerned, then of these issues, then you can step in with a solution.

What about starting a healthcare management centre specifically for treating ailments such as diabetics, heart problem, cancer, piles, vericose vein, etc.

44) Provide Value Added Services ( latest update on 1/12/16)

This is an example I picked from two meat shops. One is from New Frosty’s in Bangalore and another one is Minerva Pork stall in Hyderabad.

At Frosty’s I bought marinated beef (ready for grill) at Rs 900 a kg. When the normal price of beef is around Rs 300, the price looks big. Oh, they have provided an easy ready-to-grill meat and I bought some 200 grams for dinner.

Similarly, when i visited Minerva pork stall in Hyderabad, the sales guy offered me cooked masala pork curry. I was hesitant to taste, but he insisted. When I tasted, I liked the curry and for a second I was tempted to buy it. All kudos to his salesman skills.

These two shops have done one thing – they provided a value addition to the raw meat. Now, they charged more and they get increase margin on the product.

So, if you’re running a food store shop, why can’t you implement the same idea?
If you’re selling fish, or meat, then learn a tasty dish and start selling it in your shop. The overhead is covered and if you are able to prepare a relishing dish, then you get a new set of customers coming to your shop.
I feel there’s a market in this. If you need proof, you can check how LICIOUS an online store to buy meat, fish and and marinated meat.

45 Start a Property Management Firms

I hit upon this service business plan after reading a post on Google. Later when I searched online, I found many service provider in this space. Most of the business are in places like Bangalore, Delhi, Bombay, etc. I also shared this idea with friend so that he can supplement additional income.

The plan is simple, but to be successful you should earn the trust of your customer. So, the best way to start one is by starting slow. I think there are many people who would avail such a service, but they shun from doing so because of the unknown factor. Also, there are many horror stories we keep hearing about bad tenants, or agents or relatives who misuse the house or property handed to them.

To make such an business successful, you should have a clear, transparent way of working. this would make the venture thrive and also help NRI’s and people settled abroad to know that their property is in right hands.

Here’s an article on how and when you should hire a property management company. Also, visit this company website for additional insight on this business.

46) Start or Train a Frisbee Team in your Locality ( posted on 19/3/16)

I got this idea after watching this video of India’s first women frisbee team who’s going to complete with other teams. Being a relatively inexpensive game, you can start this game in any  panchayats or rural area without a significant investment. Probably, you can raise the fund by asking the affluent people in the locality to sponsor couple of good quality frisbiees.

Imagine, ladies in our rural area playing and excelling in flying disc game. Oh, I wish I had money so that I could sponsor the cost of training and setting a team in one locality. In case, you come across anyone who’s has the same intention, then please share this idea.

What’s the benefit of playing frisbee or any game:

  • Good exercise for homemakers who have very are exercise
  • Exposure to meet other people and get healthy
  • Opportunity for some me-time
  • Chance for the Kids to learn a new game and excel at it

47)  Cultivate Mushrooms and Start Selling Dishes Too

Mushroom cultivation is a low-cost way of starting a side-income generating business. In Kerala, there are many Government sponsored training facilities which teaches people on how to start cultivating mushrooms at home.

Many people are now earning with this concept. However, the taste of mushroom and recipes are still alien to most Malayalees. To counter it, you’ll have to market recipes along with the raw materials. In simple words, place printed a  mushroom recipe along with the mushroom packet.

Another way to better the experience is making mushroom dishes and keep it for sale at supermarkets, or at restaurants.

48) Start a Craft Shop

These days there are many who are getting into craft stuffs. From painting to crochet work, jewelry making, clay molding, candle making, terrarium, etc. Though there’s a demand for art items, there are few exclusive shops selling art related materials.

Try to start a hobby store like itsybitsy.com where you have to package products for every kind of craft, and art enthusiast.

49) Start Growing Micro-greens at Home

Recently I came across many videos on how to grow micro-greens. Initially, I didn’t give it much thought. Then I saw it again in another Whatsapp group. And, this triggered me to know more about it.
I have now started growing seeds. Once the seeds germinate, leaves will grow in three to four days. And, it’s ready for harvesting. Wow!

Micro-greens contains no chemicals and it’s organic. Doesn’t this sound great and the best part is that it can be grown in a small place. The business ideas has two parts – one, you can grow micro-green and sell it to shops or friends. Next, you can grow micro-greens, make salad or make thoran and sell it to your customers. When food is prepared, it adds value to the product and fetches a better price.

Conclusion…

There are more business ideas in my kitty. I hope I can meet more people, share ideas to them, pick ideas, and also inspire folks like you to start something of your own.

How Was Your Weekend!

I overheard a typical question asked by one dude to another- How Was Your Weekend! It’s a mandatory question we hear on a typical Monday morning. Often, I shoot the same questions, expecting the same answer.

Weekend in Bangalore
Talking of weekends in Bangalore, I’m one of the dudes who follows a typical boring lifestyle. Well, I’m not alone. Most folks I know are either in some pub, or at home with TV and whiling time in a shopping mall in Bangalore. Only a handful spend time to purse a hobby, or indulge in a different activity during a weekend.

For a long time, I’m cocooned in my little world, doing very little to explore, socialize with people around me. As days go by, I feel I’m drifting from a socially connected life, to a island kind of life.

Often I get envious when I see happy group of people, chatting, laughing or sharing some mirth. I hope they continue this comradeship all through their life.

Just a thought on city life!
