Where to get naruneendi in Trivandrum?

I had the feeling naruneendi drink was a Kerala centric coolant. That thought was wrong, as it’s used all over this subcontinent and more. I had seen it growing near my house, when we stayed near Karamana. I had even dug around the dry hard soil to get the roots, but most times it had broken near the base.

Sarbath for this Summer

Sarbath in Hand! what a thirst quencher!

Before reaching Kumarapuram junction, after the Medical College Men’s Hostel, there’s one guy who have recently started to sell sarbath by the road side. More than his sarbath, I like his smile and inviting attitude.

During my second visit I had a small chat. I suggested that he can add Moru ( Butter milk) to his collection. He said, it’s good that then there’s a problem with the food safety officials who keep checking on quality of things sold by the road side.

Apart from this, I was thinking of the water quality? Where does he and similar others source water? Is it safe for drinking? What if he puts a board saying ( Bisleri Water used) or anything that invokes mark of safety, quality and trust.

Adding Taste, Flavor and Originality

How to make one-of-the-kind sarbath? How to make it special that only you can make it? What makes your sarbath special? I know sarbath is made from the root of a plant – narugandi (nannari plant) But, how to extract its flavor from the root?

I shall investigate it further? I didn’t have to look much longer. Here’s how to extract flavor or syrup from nannari plant root.

Food Takeaway Plastic Mayhem

Pothi Choru – Meals with curries in plastic wrap

Pothi Choru is popular in Trivadrum. There are home chefs who have championed in preparing delicious side dishes as made at home. Also, there are little hotels, like this one at Kumarapuram, which sells rice and accompaniments for Rs 60.

I bought two from this shop – one for my brother. The quantity of rice is humongous. Easily three people can share the rice and still have remaining one. All the other dishes, sambar, rasam, aviyal etc came in plastic sort of covers. I just opened the sambar, as other dishes appears boring.

Adding Plastic to the Pile
Is there a different way of packing food? What about some kind of paper or environment friendly item? Who will take the initiative to fix this? Will someone who is willing to take the effort, take the lead?

Please do!

Btw, what are the systems followed in other countries, like Singapore or South Korea or Netherlands? Probably, we don’t have to invent anything new – just copy the idea from a society which has found a solution?

Don’t Just Eye the Goals

Another epiphany moment and the thought which followed it.

Most of us ( Including me) are good with eyeing things we desire. It could be a fancy car, a position, a job, a girl next door, a gadget, a garden, a vacation, a project, a perfect figure but how many of us really work towards it. We just eye it and then other things catch our imagination. The thing which we eyed remain as a fancy.

I remember when I saw a midle-aged handsome guy with a flat tummy, who wore kaki trousers and pants. At that instant, I thought I should be becoming one like him. Fit and carry myself the way he was able to do. Did I? Nope. The image of this man stayed for few days and then the it faded to oblivion .

Now, I don’t even remember his face, his attire. What if I had retained what I saw? Will that drive me everyday to be like him – at least try and shred few kilos.

The Ugly Indian | TEDx Talk

Yesterday, while riding my scooter, I overtook another scooter guy. While I was almost crossing him, he just threw a big steam of water from his mouth. My feet narrowly escaped his spit. It was not just a spit, a whole mouth full of water. As a person who usually avoids any kind of confrontation, I just went forward, not ever looking at the bugger who had done it.

This incident and many other similar sights on our roads made me think of our attitude towards cleanliness. Anyone sees such a sight finds nothing unuual, b’cos we are used to seeing all sorts of spitting.

I then thought from the point of view of people who spit- do they get an automatic tendency to spit out which they can’t hold – just like a sneeze?
Or spitting has become an involuntary reaction that they have to spit every 5 minutes?

Whatever it’s, I guess we Indians are poor clean masters. Somewhere we lost the lessons to keep our drains, road sides are cluttered with bottles and waste. Wonder if we will ever learn – unless, we are fined. Probably, each state should now recruit cleaning Marshals who will give spot fine on those who spit or litter.

From the TedX talk by Ugly Indian here are theory which makes our public spaces more dirty:

Broken window Syndrome
Tragedy of the Commons

Soul Space at the side of my home

I love green spaces. Thankfully, in the concrete city of Bangalore, I’ve a little green yard that’s on the side of the house. It’s a peaceful corner where there’s a mango tree, few aloe plants and ferns. Often, I take terrarium and kokedama class in this space.

This space has been the party zone on many occasions. Mostly we had barbecue grill and booze in this space.
Every One Needs a Space
What’s your nooky corner where you love to hang around? Is it the balcony space or a room with a view or are you the kind who finds everything green around you?

Garyvee Blog

Gary’s Blog

Once you listen to this Gary Vaynerchuk guy, you’ll know he’s a turbo charge guy. Probably you will like his approach to marketing or you’ll hate his explitive ridden usages. Whatever, he appears to be a go-getter even from his Wine Library days.

One of the stuff he does often and on is buying random stuff from garage sale and selling it on Ebay. Sounds weird for a guy who’s running a million dollar marketing agency.

What’s should be our take on it?
When online started catching up, I had plans of selling antique keys on ebay. I bought many keys from different antique shops, from roadside akiri stores and grew my collection. And then I stopped with it. I didn’t take the next step of creating an ebay account or uploading pics on any estores for selling it. Along with antique keys, I thought of books. Even these book gathered dust in different shelf in my house. Wasted Chance!

I didn’t take the crucial step. I just stopped at the first step! Damn it. Now I feel, I should have tried at least posting one pic and seen the feedback. Without attempting, how can I judge the market and customers.

So, if you are reading this, there only one lessons – find channels to make money. It could be by selling your craft or buying a unique items and selling it to a selective audience. Whatever, Internet makes it possible. As said by Thomas L. Friedman -The World Is Flat. Means this – there’s opportunity for everyone to connect and the possibilities are endless.

Learning from Learningaday Blog

Post from Learning a day Blog

At one stage of my life, I was a big blog evangelist. Meaning, whenever I get an opportunity, I would preach the benefits of blog and why every individual or business owner should write a story. But, all those activism years are gone! Now, I ‘m just a mere shadow of that era.

But, the spirit to blog is still as fresh as it used to be. Now after a gap for many months, I have started this blog to pen my thoughts. I hope to sustain the pace of posting.

What kind of blogs do you read?

My reading list is mostly marketing related, often venturing to read from longreads.com or Vice or Hbrblog, etc.

Why Ask Better Questions?

edward de bono quote
Matter of asking better questions. Also not asking or commenting for the sake of asking? I have made numerous mistakes in asking illogical questions when it was not at all warranted. Why did I do it? I just want to give a feeling that I’m participating or to make it feel involved.

Focus on asking the Right Question – Think and ask the question!
