I’m not sure when I started reading Chase. Probably, during late teens. Did any friend at that time passed a book for reading? Or did I pick a copy from the NSS Library near Karamana? I’m not absolutely sure of all that as my memory around that time is as grayed as my hair.
I can’t remember when I have finished reading a book in two to three days. Even though I love reading, and enjoy visiting libraries, spending time in used book stores, reading has been a spluttering process – two pages here and then a long break, and in most cases the book gets abandoned midway – only to gather dust in some faraway corner. However, I have high expectation about a revival.
The 21 day lock-down period has given a new reason to rekindle a new spirited reader in me. I guess, there would be many like me who would have restarted on reading, more than any other activity. Probably, binge browsing YouTube, watching movies, de-clutter and gardening activities would come next in line as activities. What about sexting? Can’t leave that as an activity when people all types are anchored at home.
Art in Everything
Thanks to Mrs Saramma Markose for gifting the bookmark which you see in the book. It is handmade – flowers she had picked, dried and pressed into a bookmark. This is something unique, personal and it’s not factory made.
Checklist Manifesto from Blossoms Bookstore Bought the book from Blossoms, second hand bookstore at Church Street, B’lore. While at the bookstore, I checked the price of it in Amazon. The shop was quoting a higher price, but I gave in for the experience of picking a book at a store.
About your reading habit… What are you reading now? As you read, do you highlight lines that catches your eye for some reason? Do you start and finish a book or mix couple of titles as you read?
Ikigai – the way people will work in futureIkigai – Finding that sweet spot
I think I first came to know about Ikigai from Seth Godin’s blog. That was few week ago and today I have the book with me. So, what’s the who buzz about Ikigai?
According to Hector Garcia, Ikigai can be summed as the “a reason for being” – the thing that gets you out of bed each morning.
Few questions about Ikigai? 1. Is Ikigai only for people who are freelancers or those start-ups passion projects? 2. How to find Ikigai in a typical work? ( Programmer, designer, homemaker, clerk, peon, security person, etc) 3. Is our school or college curricula facilitating Ikigai concept?
Ikigai Mobile App Just as I was writing this post, I had an epiphany about having a Mobile App to discover or go towards an Ikigai lifestyle. The idea of the app would be to help people find passion projects, and get them to build a life towards that moment.
1. List moments which drives curiosity 2. Fining things each person likes 3. List out things they are good at 4. Finding gaps in the current market ( What the world needs) 5. Vocation 6. Help people easily visualize about Ikigai aspects and grow them
( All these and more in the application will be designed and developed for users to add inputs and know where they now and how to build a meaningful life.)
I guess it’s been sometime since I visited this old books store called Blossoms at Church Street in Bangalore. It was earlier running in another building on the same road, a little .further. My old habit was to hang around Brigade Road on weekends – have a beer or so and then visit all the little shops in the area.
Now that routine of going out is replaced by more sedentary acts. These days weekends are at home – just sitting in front of the screen, posting on Facebook Pages or doing odd jobs of buying stuffs for home.
I have always been a sucker for old books and book stores. In Trivandrum, I used to visit the second hand book shops which was near University College. Later these guys shifted to a spot near Public Library. And during that time, I moved out to Bangalore and lost that habit. The guys who runs the used book store in Trivandrum forgot my face. Probably, some other customer’s picture must be in there. Whatever, I miss the days in Trivandrum when I used to come home with some old copies of National Geographic or some books which I bought on a deal.
Are you the type who likes to read books? Do you like old books stores to brand new stores? Which type of books do you buy from these stores?
When I shared the pic of Blossoms in one of the Whatsapp Group, one guy reminded me to buy Amar Chitra Khata books by PiCO.
