Domlur Locality Close to ISRO Quarters

Lonely Street View

Road Ahead

This road leading towards Cambridge Layout was widened last year. If I can remember it, it took more than a year to complete the process. Recently I noticed that they have named it Aryabatta Bridge. This name might be given because of the proximity of ISRO quarters.

At some time of the day, it’s very quite, other times, it’s a busy road which takes commuters from Cambridge and towards Domlur BDA side. Once a person told my wife that there were instances of chain snatching and mugging. So, be aware of this, especially when you’re waking this part on a lonely day like this.

As a person who stays in this locality, I’ve used this road from the past 12 years – often to go to office at Koramangala or to buy fish at NLP fish stall at Domlur.

Thanks to this wide new road, there’s no need to navigate the portholes or get honked for blocking the way.

Launch of Cut by Sreemoyee at Park

Book Launch of Cut by Sreemoyee

At the venue early on – Photo at Park Hotel

This is the first book launch I’m attending in 2019. Not that I keep getting invite to other book launches, but it’s my first chance in the year to visit any of the big places in Bangalore. I should first thank Sreemoyee for sending me the invite for the launch of her book Cut in Bangalore.

About the book Launch
There’s one thing I have to share about this book launch and the previous one Status Single is her meticulous plan, the well articulated words, choice of panelists, etc. This book like others previous two books, she has divulged into a new topic and a topic which are a bit controversial.

I’m yet to read this book. Shall share my two cents on it later.

Wishing the best to Sree!

Life Tips from James Altucher – Print This!

James Altucher Tips

After subscribing to Feedly, I added quite number of blogs for daily reading. Though, I don’t get time to read it daily, I keep skipping the feeds, to pick few from the pool.

Today, decided to read a blog from James Altucher. Found the poster with 8 practical tips for improving life. Wish schools, officers or Government offices has space to pin such posters.

Will such points provoke people to change, think or act differently?

Just few words on a poster or life-tips from a non-fiction book doesn’t get absorbed by the reader. It takes more than just sticking a poster on the wall or skipping through a book, get any effect on the readers intellect. There should be focused approach on learning from the points covered, retrospection and absorption.

Nighttime Pubs Daytime Gig Places

During daytime often pass pubs and upscale bars in Indira Nagar ( Bangalore). While I pass their gate, it’s not uncommon to see empty seats waiting for patrons during the morning hours. It’s understandable that customers hardly show-up during weekdays, that too on morning.

I found this a loss! However, there are ways to utilize this time to some cash flow. So, what is it? Do to get the cash register ticking when there are not much customers.

How to Monetize  Pubs or Bars During Day TIme?

I’m not sure if this can work! What I see is that, there are lot of short gigs and events that keeps happening in Bangalore – someone like to use a space to teach drawing, nail art, Kokedama, guitar, or sketching or photography, or even a business meeting etc.

What about sub-letting your space for charity or rent it out for 2 hrs!

First, the establishment should make a list of gigs for which they will rent the place. For instance, a dance bar space wouldn’t be a good venue for a kid’s drawing class, but it can be used for some modeling assignment.

What do you think? Is it a practical solution to get some extra dough from the space where you have invested many thousand? What if you promoted this part-time space renting on your social media? Is there a chance to response?

While writing this, I felt that I use such place to conduct a kokedama class or terrarium or even Blogging workshop.

Let me know if the whole idea is absurd or there’s a chance for light to get in.

Liquor Ban!

Poster from Whatsapp

What is liquor ban about? In India, we have dry days, often in city, locality, state level and country wise. I can think of state imposed dry day for one or two days – probably for Gandhi Jayanti as he considered consumption of alcohol as a major social evil and urged a ban on drinking. But, looking at this concept, the number of dry days are going up.
What are the other reasons for which liquor is banned in this republic?
One of the stand Kerala government has taken is the ban on the sale of liquor on the first of every month. Do you know why?
The government considers that on first of every month when employees get the salary, and they tend to splurge their salary on booze leaving less to the homemaker or family. With this so-called noble concept in mind dry day rule was brought out by Oommen Chandy Government.
At the time this ban came into force, the government employees used to get salary by cash. Now things have changed. On first of every month, salary directly credited to their SBI account. This means, it’s more safe and there’s less chance of them withdrawing the salary just to spend on liquor.

We also know that  those who really want to spend, can and will find a means to spend it. So, I find this kind of illogical dry day on first a very regressive stance by a state – where the revenue is partly dependent on tourism.

Sadly, most bans will go on for a long time. B’cos no Government will try to revoke it as they fear the backlash of media and opposition party who cry foul and label the other as party promoting liquor in the state.

So, till them stock it up buddy!

With So Many Blogs to Read

Screenshot from Budgetsaresexy

Yesterday, I stumbled on yet another blog which caught my eye scan. The thing that picked my radar was the list of business ideas ( mentioned as Side Hustle Series ) listed on the blog.

The blog name is Budgets Are $exy.com ( http://www.budgetsaresexy.com/)

Isn’t the name cool and sexy, which we usually don’t associate with budgets. The about section, speaks of the accolades, achievements and all those cash savings.

For more, the side hustle series was fun and interesting to read. Out of the 70+ hustle projects, the best I like was the Worm Counter, and Phone Operator.

The worm project looks interesting, especially in a place where there are anglers and fishing enthusiasts. This also took me to the days when we used to dig for earthworms before going for the fishing trip in Trivandrum. I wonder why amateur fishing hasn’t caught up in places like Kerala.

Another project which looks be of a disrepute or illegal in India is the Phone Sex Operator. Sounds interesting and easy part-time money for ladies! But, someone promotes such an thing in India, that’s sure to be a taboo. However, I think it’s flourishing in grey areas in our locality. I think I have seen ads in magazines or news paper of such ads which are camouflaged as something else – speak to like-minded people, chat with people with similar mindset.

Talking about phone sex, I remember a Hindi Pop Video which was about it. I can’t find it now.

Million blogs – No Time to Read

If you’re on the net full time, you will vouch by this statement. Every other day, I come across some interesting blog or an article, and I get bowled over. But, only to forgot about it! What a shame!

I have read in one of the blogs by Seth Godin that he reads 50 blogs a day! What 50 blogs! How does it do it? I had followed his advice to install Feedly, but I have never gone past 5 days in reading more than 5 blogs on a consistent basis. Why cant’ I! Why can’t I have the discipline to read, read these gems from writers, authors!

Blogs I read

1. Seth Godin Blog
2. Marketing Sherpa Blog
3. Chris Borgan
4.

Wishing Thought!

Sunday or Monday hardly makes a difference to me. From the time, I quit my day job, I have felt liberated from the task of clocking at any office register. Sounds cool! Not the entire picture. Walking up at own pace, nudging back under the blanket, having a heavy breakfast without looking at the clock are the highs of this routine. The downside is the pay check factor that can cause lot more other worries.

Life in Bangalore
Today, while I was holed in front of the laptop, I had a sudden overwhelming feeling to talk to someone! Was I lonely in a city teeming with people?Yes, today I didn’t talk to anyone – not even on the phone. This thought chocked me – took me to my life in my 20’s. Then, I had a string of friends, who used to come home uninvited.

Only when I’m at the door, I would know who had come and I would escort them to my room for the usual chit-chat. Now, I also wonder what was the conversation in those days! What were the serious discussion – what it about the girl next door, or the girl he met on the bus, or the bedroom eye stories, or plan to travel or seek adventure….

While I was thinking of all these clouded thoughts, I heard someone at the gate. The typical sound of the gate opening made think of some possibilities. Is it my friend who stays at the next junction, who had come to give a surprise, or a neighbor who had come to share some evening snacks!

As the person approached the door, I understood that it was the water delivery person!

Back to Reality!

Life has become a bit of bore these days. No job also means that there’s no idea sharing, frivolous talk at the water filter or coffee break.

In 2019, I wanted to change it and I think I will make it!

Life Easier some 20 Years Ago!
No need to complain of the jolly good life that’s history. Let me make it green again!

Better than Complaining!

She Said it!

I look a screen shot of this message when it appeared on the Facebook wall. What she had written is so apt for the moment my state is going through.

I never imagined Kerala to go this way, but due to many reasons I see people are really agitated, becoming crude in their outbursts, and so forth.

Thankfully I stopped reading newspaper nor watch the TV news. So, it’s lot peaceful at heart. But, people like my Mom who are news addicts are the worst hit. They are finding it hard to comprehend the violence, the behavior all the political parties and so forth. For me, it’s hard to tell her to stop watching the news as she it has got into her system.

Problems are Everywhere – What’s the use of complaining.
Essence of this post is this – do something novel, create a better life for yourself, society, people around!

India needs people who can create a better world – be it a small change for the society, it can cause some kind of ripple in the heart of people around you. I hope I’m able to explain it the way I feel inside me.
